The 33-year-old Fowler left Cardiff during the offseason after rejecting a deal with the second-tier Welsh side. He has since been training with Blackburn, which is managed by his former Liverpool and England teammate Paul Ince.

Ince said Friday he's "pleased" with Fowler's signing, as "he is a proven goal scorer."

Ince adds that he thinks Fowler can still have success at the top level. "If he does well there is no reason why we can't extend the deal."

The former England international will be in Saturday's squad to face Arsenal. He made his topflight debut with Liverpool in 1991, scoring 128 goals in 288 appearances during two spells at Anfield.
